Happy Samhain and Halloween – if you celebrate either!

With the veil between worlds at its thinnest right now, you might notice yourself feeling a lot of ancient ancestral wounding coming up in order to be seen, felt and healed. You might also be honoring your ancestors through ritual, offering remembrance and respect to those who walked before you.

When the veil is this thin, we can see beyond the illusion of separation and communicate with our ancestors to invite deep healing in. When we experience healing, especially on a womb deep level, it actually heals our entire lineage.

I’ll give you a personal example so you can understand how that can be true.

On my father’s side, it’s the belief that “we’re not meant for money” that I’ve been carrying for years. All of my ancestors on my father’s side have carried that belief in their DNA, because he passed it on to me.

On my mother’s side, there are also lack beliefs, but definitely deep wounding around sexuality and worthiness. I can feel it in my womb. It’s always been there, heavy and murky.

While I’m not perfect, I’ve devoted my life and journey to releasing and moving beyond these beliefs and wounds. It stops with me. And when it stops with me two things happen…

One – The story that my entire lineage has carried for generations no longer holds true. If I can make money doing what I love, for example, then it means that I actually AM meant for money, which totally proves that the story my family has carried (we’re not meant for money) actually isn’t true. This family story dissolves and sets us free as a lineage.

If I’m experiencing deep sexual pleasure and feeling wholly worthy as an erotic being, then it breaks the red thread that was woven from womb to womb in my matriarchal lineage that says “we’re not worthy” or “we have sexual trauma.”

Two – I won’t pass this on to my daughter so our lineage will begin to embody a new story. A story of being sexually and financially worthy – regardless of what circumstances bring. When she has a daughter (if she does), that lack coding and sexual wounding won’t be passed on to her daughter, from womb to womb.

This means we experience healing of our ancestral lineage and our future lineage.

By the way, I’m speaking of the physical womb AND the energetic womb. It doesn’t matter whether you have a physical womb or not, there is an energetic womb that exists within you that carries ancestral trauma, wounds and beliefs or stories.

In terms of the reproductive anatomy of the ovaries, when a woman is pregnant with a daughter, the daughter will create all of her ovary eggs while being gestated inside of her mother’s womb. The same thing when the woman was inside of her own mother’s womb. She had her ovaries and so on going back to every woman in the lineage who had a daughter.

And if the daughter has her own daughter one day she will be passing on everything that has been stored in her individual and ancestral collective womb and ovaries on to her daughter. All of the trauma, shame, pain, stories and wounds.

That’s why cleansing the womb of everything that doesn’t serve – especially stuff that isn’t even ours, but rather our ancestors’ – is so important.

Because the womb gestates and births, we will either birth things unconsciously (from that space of unconscious ancestral wounding being stored there) or consciously (by clearing the womb out and choosing what we desire to create).

To celebrate this time of honoring of our ancestors, I want to offer you a Samhain Ancestral Womb Healing Ritual.

This ritual will help you honor your ancestors AND release what doesn’t serve you. It’s not yours to carry anymore.

Here’s what you’ll need for the ritual:

  • A single candle (it can be white, black, red or any color that calls to you)
  • Matches/lighter
  • Journal and pen
  • Safe, private space
  • Incense, palo santo or other smudge herbs to burn for purifying your space and opening your ritual
  • Anything else that intuitively calls to you

Here’s what you’ll want to do for your ritual, but feel free to play with it:

  1. Create a nice ritual space for yourself. Maybe you want to connect with one of your ancestors in particular. You can create an altar if you want. You can put an offering of food, drink or incense on the altar for your ancestor(s). Maybe a relative loved fine coffee or a glass of whiskey or herbal tea.
  2. Take your incense and burn it. As the smoke swirls around your space, open your ritual. You can say “I am now opening my ancestral womb healing ritual.”
  3. Sit or lie down in a comfortable space for a meditation. Have your candle near you (in a safe place).
  4. Choose an intention for your healing ritual and say it aloud. As you do, light your candle. I like the intention of “I release everything passed down through my ancestral lineage that doesn’t serve me from my womb.”
  5. Place your hands in a downward facing triangle over your womb space. Thumbs hooked in your belly button, fingers pointing down.
  6. Begin to breathe deeply in and out of this space. Inhale, expand your belly. Exhale, release fully.
  7. Set a timer, close your eyes and begin to visualize all of your ancestors standing behind you. You can focus on one side of your lineage or both.
  8. Feel their presence and the particular wounding/belief/story/trauma you want to release in your womb.
  9. You can thank your ancestors, because this wounding/story did serve them and has served you up until a certain point. Now it no longer does – it’s time to release.
  10. Imagine a cauldron deep inside of your womb, burning with white hot fire.
  11. See this wounding/story like an energy ball, thread or whatever else works for you passing from womb to womb of your ancestors until it reaches yours and burns up in the cauldron. With every breath, the fire burns hotter, incinerating the story or wounding. Alchemizing it. Creating new space.
  12. Stay here as long as you want. You can work with one thing or many things for releasing.
  13. Once you feel complete, imagine the flames dying down in your womb cauldron, leaving cool ash behind. Still breathing deeply, imagine your exhales blowing the ashes out of your body and fertilizing mother earth.
  14. Thank your womb, yourself and your ancestors.
  15. Complete and close your ritual. Feel free to journal on your experience and notice how you feel over the coming days.
